Volume 3 - Virgin Islands
The U.S.Virgin Islands:
We have divided the USVI. chapter into two sections on the basis of the diving. St. Thomas and St. John are close enough to share many of the same dive sites. At least one-third of the sites is dived by both St. Thomas and St. John operators.
Because St. Croix is 35 miles south of St. Thomas and St. John it forms a discrete diving area and hence is a separate section of thechapter. The diving terrain in the two areas is also very different.
St. Thomas and St. John have mainly shallow sites and have some sites protected from the wind and rough seas at all times of year. St. Croix has very deep diving (though remember there is never any need to dive deeper than you feel comfortable about) and most of the sites are along the north coast, which is exposed to occasional winter northerly swells.
The book covers the USVI's in three sections: St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix and includes over 100 pages describing the USVI's 89 dive sites and 22 dive stores, plus lots of information about the island, après dive activities, diving rules and regulations and marine life.
The British Virgin Islands:
Diving in the B.V.I. has that rare combination of a well-organised mooring system, a benign climate and sea conditions, a few wrecks to add to the many different types of underwater terrain, and a diving range from easy shallow sites to more challenging ones.
We have divided the BVIs into areas in order to make the material more mangeable but during a vacation in the area you could easily dive all of these areas, although the sites listed under Tortola are dived less often and only during the summer months (with the exception of the Chikuzen which is dived once a week by Virgin Gorda operators).
The book covers the BVIs in three sections: Virgin Gorda, Tortola, and the Sir Francis Drake Channel Islands and includes 65 pages describing the BVI’s 55 dive sites and 9 dive operators (including two liveaboards), plus lots of information about the island, après dive activities, diving rules and regulations and marine life.
